It’s been a week or so since I last updated on my Christmas Spirit boosting activities. So I thought it would be time to give an update.
Since my last post, I’ve done a few more Christmassy things. First and foremost is that we’ve now decorated the interior of the house. That always helps to jazz things up a bit. The tree was the last piece to go up. And when it did, it sat bare for the better part of a week. But over the weekend, we finally got it all decked out. I love our Christmas tree. It’s so very eclectic. We have a mishmash of old ornaments from when we were kids (or some even older…) along with random ornaments that we have purchased throughout our journeys since we’ve been together. We have ornaments from Disney World, Doctor Who, Scooby-Doo, Big Bang Theory and cupcakes. I love the tree because it tells stories. Each piece means something to us. None of this match-y, colour coordinated malarkey for me! (not that there’s anything wrong with that)
Adding to the holiday spirit was our annual turkey lunch at work. Each year, we have a fully catered meal, served by our senior management team. The food is always tasty and everyone in the building is in a fabulous mood for the day.
On Wednesday of this week, Isabelle and I partook in our annual holiday tradition of going to see Noël avec les Muses, les frères Belivo & Roland Gauvin. This is usually the trigger for me to say “it’s the Christmas season”. A fun night at the Capitol Theatre with the in-laws and a few hundred other folks, enjoying Christmas music. The room is just filled with so just joy and Christmas spirit that you cannot but help to have a boosted morale when you walk out at the end of the night.
To end the week, I watched my favourite Christmas movie – National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. I typically watch this movie at least twice over the month of December. This was the first viewing, so time’s running short! I haven’t watched anything else holiday-related, so it’s time to get my Christmas specials on.
One last item to note was my introduction to a new (to me) Christmas song. While this is definitely not your traditional Christmas music, I absolutely love it. The song is called White Wine in the Sun by Tim Minchin. I would strongly urge everyone to give it a listen, and if you like it, to purchase it on iTunes. All proceeds for the sale of the song throughout November, December and January of every year are given to the National Autistic Society.
All in all, this week was up and down in my Christmas spirit meter. But ending the week, I’d have to say that my spirit level is:
