It’s been a minute, friend. Sorry I haven’t written much for some time. I’d love to say that I’ve been busy but, well, that would be an untrue statement! Instead, I’ve just not been writing. But today is time for a quick update!
Today, I start my vacation. For the next two glorious weeks, I will be out of the office and having some time for fun and relaxation. Only, not the vacation that we’ve been planning since November 2025. Turns out, we needed to pivot.
The original plan was for my wife and I to hop on an airplane tomorrow morning and make our way to Hawaii. Everything had lined up perfectly – Isabelle was participating in a Mastermind group with an on-site retreat in Kauai (the same island we went to a couple of years back). And it just happened to coincide with our 15th wedding anniversary. What more could you ask?! Two weeks on one of the most magical places in the world. Then came hurricane Lowell. The hurricane decided to pivot… and ended up slamming directly into Kauai.
Now, this is not a ‘woe is me’ kind of blog post where I’m first-world complaining about not being able to go to Hawaii for a two week vacation. After seeing the damage done by the hurricane, and knowing that because of them being in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, resources will take a while to get there. We both felt that it would not be appropriate to travel into this type of situation. Do I really want to be a tourist, arriving on the island, knowingly, after the hurricane, taking up space and using the finite resources that are available? No. We sat with the decision for a few days and made the call on Thursday at supper to cancel our trip.
Thankfully, we were able to be reimbursed for much of the trip, or at the very least receive credits for our flights that can be used at another time. A couple of days after we canceled, the location we had reserved for our second week on the island announced that they were canceling all reservations through to September 30th due to the damage of their site. This was our sign that we had made the right call. Had we stayed, we would have needed to find new accommodations.
Given that this was our 15th anniversary trip, and we were both desperately in need of some vacation time, we decided to pivot.

The same evening, after making all of the calls and canceling everything we could, we pivoted and booked another trip. Before going to bed on Thursday night, we had all of our flights and hotels booked. We were tired, but happy.
So where are we going, you might ask? I’ll tell you about that in the next post. Stay tuned.
