One year ago today, my beautiful wife and I made a (very) long drive some 440 km back home from our aborted anniversary getaway weekend in Cape Breton. We had driven the same 440 km to Cape Breton the day before. A stomach bug got the best of the missus that day, and I was soon to follow after we got back home. We spent a miserable 72 or so hours for our 11th anniversary. That was when we decided we would book this year’s anniversary getaway on the spot. Booked and paid for a year in advance. Now we get to have some fun glamping.

Today’s post is not about our currently on-going trip to Cielo in Haut-Shippagan. Rather, it’s a brief message to my darling wife on our anniversary.

Isabelle, not a day goes by that I do not give thanks for having you in my life. You are my soulmate. You are my muse. You are my (much) better half. The growth I’ve seen in both of us over these past 12 years of married life has been amazing. I could not ask for a better travel companion – you love to explore and see new things as much as I do. You love to laugh. You love to eat. But most of all, you love to be Light in this world; a shining beacon of hope, kindness, empathy and love. I strive to be better each and every day so that I can continue to walk by your side.

Twelve years ago today, we gathered many of our family and friends around us to officially bind ourselves together. As hectic and madcap as the time leading up to the big day was, we had a hell of a lot of fun that night. We danced, laugh and ate. Well at least we ate a bit…I’m still a little sore that I barely got a canapé to go with my cupcake. (And at least no one stole my cupcake from off of our sweetheart table!)

I still often think back to that night. Seeing all of the smiling faces full of love and happiness surrounding us. Beautiful.

Thank you for being my co-pilot on this amazing journey we are on together. We’ve seen and done a lot in the past twelve years, and I know that that’s just the tip of the iceberg. We have some big adventures yet to come and a whole world left to explore.
