An Intentional Summer part 2

I recently wrote a blog post where I discussed how I was taking a page from my wife’s playbook and setting myself some intentions for this summer. Rather than have a checklist of things that I feel like I need to do, I am giving myself the gift of simplicity for the summer.

My first intention was to watch old, classic movies, which I’ve been doing for a few weeks now. Intention number two? Disney-fy my summer.

As some of you may already be aware, I’m a bit of a Disney-phile – I love all things to do with the House of Mouse. For this very reason, I have the intention of adding some Disney magic into my life over the summer. Now the easiest way to do this would be to go to Walt Disney World! But since I have already done that this year (you can read about that here), and the cost is more than slightly prohibitive, I will need to find ways of injecting Disney into my summer.

First up on the agenda – go through the pictures from our last trip. Nothing brings on nostalgia like a good ol’ perusal of the photo album. In today’s parlance, that would mean let’s grab the iPad and scroll through all of the pictures we took. Isabelle and I have been talking about doing this for a couple of weeks, but we never make it a priority. So I’m adding that to my list of intentions not only for the summer, but more specifically for the next week while I am enjoying a week’s vacation at home.

Another idea is to look at some Disney related food. This past Christmas, I came across an issue of Delish that featured a number of recipes from the various Disney parks around the world. There are a couple in there that I’m wanting to try out, so that will be another intention for the summer – make a few Disney-inspired dishes.

Related to the previous item, there’s also the fun Disney foods. Anyone who’s been to the parks knows that there’s nothing quite as satisfying as taking a bite into a Mickey Mouse shaped food item. Among our favourites – the ice cream bar. As luck would have it, my wife and I came across some Mickey-shaped ice cream bars while doing our groceries this past week! I knew that they had been for sale in the US for a bit, but this is the first time that we have seen them here. So to celebrate the start of my vacation, here’s a Mickey ice cream sandwich!

I’m sure I’ll find other ways of injecting some Disney magic into my summer – whether watching a couple of movies or the like – but in the meantime, I think this is a good starting point. After all, it’s about the little pleasures in life.

Food for thought: What would you like to inject into your summer? Do you have any intentions for yourself?
